Don’t let reading difficulties hold you or your child back
Roughly 5% of the UK population suffer visual discomfort whilst reading and another 20% experience symptoms to a lesser degree. So why do we still find it embarrassing to speak to someone about this problem that so many are suffering from?
For many years there has been a common misconception that those with reading and writing difficulties are less intelligent; this is certainly not the case! Despite visual stress causing problems with reading and writing, concentration and comprehension of information, those with the condition are often extremely creative and just as clever as their peers.
It has been proven that the use of colour can relieve the symptoms of visual stress. Although the exact reason for this is unknown, colour is used to calm down background noise in the brain so that sufferers are able to concentrate more comfortably.
Certain opticians are able to perform a test which determines whether colour can relieve the symptoms of visual stress.
“Lots of people don’t know that visual stress can be caused not only by dyslexia, but also by other conditions such as migraine, epilepsy and autism”

At Bowen Opticians we pride ourselves in our ability to help those suffering with reading and writing difficulties. If you (or your child) suffer from dyslexia or visual stress, we are able to use specialist software on our computer to find the perfect visual solution for you.
Once we have identified the specific colour and shade that provides you with the most comfort possible, it can then be made up into coloured overlays or tinted spectacles for you to use in everyday life.
If you or your little one is experiencing any of the following, please get in touch to book an appointment at Bowen Opticians:
